I am playing a 1992 Gibson Les Paul Standard, running through a Rocktron Prophesy II Guitar System, using a Marshall Power Brake Attenuator, Monster Cables and a 1985 Marshall JCM 800/100 Watt Power Head with EL 34 tubes. I think I have finally reproduced Al Pitrelli's sound on this song (pretty close). after trying different gear for the last four years. Please leave your comments and let me know what you think of my tone and my guitar playing. Also, I have seen Tran-Siberian Orchestra 4 times! I recommend that EVERYONE go and see them. You wont be disappointed. Al Pitrelli and Angus Clark are my favorites. They are what you would call "Truly Great".

  • Fantastic Joe,

I was lucky enough to see the Great TSO here in England when they came in 2010. O holy night that you played so brilliantly is one of my favorites, didn't think anyone could play it the way they do......but Joe you nailed it. I'm trying to learn how to play it but these old hands don't work and flex that well anymore :-). Anyway ......... thank you.

  • @MrSharanga

Thank you so much for your comment. It is not everyday that I get a comment such as yours. It really means a lot. More than you may know. I have seen TSO several times as well and yes Al Pitrelli is by all means ... hard to match. I just want to say thank you again. It was really nice of you.

  • I am using the Patent applied for (P.A.F.) pickups in my Les Paul. Al uses with Seymour Duncan JB Jr pickups in his Les Paul and Gibson Explorer. Thanks for the comments. It means a lot.

  • Absolutely nailed it....This was always my favorite part of the set....When Al Pitrelli would come out and fill the arena with soaring leads from his Gibson Les Paul. I swear the sustain would ring into next Tuesday ;)

Your tone and attention to detail are absoltely beautiful. My issue with the shredders on the YouTube is they don't know how to play with any feeling. It's apparent in your playing that you DO.

  • Dear DuaLeaD:

I want to say thank you for your wonderful comments. I have to say that your comments are best that I have had on Youtube. I agree with you. Alot of guitarists on here do not play with their emotions. It is a very sad fact. Again, thank you for the wonderful words.

  • Yo, Folks, I heard you ask if he's using a backing track. He's not, he's using the actual song, but his guitar is riding above it, louder. nice concept, i use it too. You did play it nice, with feel. I have a rocktron too,One though , not 2.

  • Should I get one of these for around 1300 off of ebay? How do you like the guitar?

  • very awesome man. i have one question. what pickups are you using? i've been trying to find out what pickups Al Pitrelli uses on his LP but haven't had any luck. I have a Epiphone LP standard and want to upgrade the stock pickups for a nicer tone like this

  • im just now watching this cause im learning the exact same song now or trying i just love the sound of your guitar beautiful playing i hope one day i can play just as good but im only a beginner but yea keep rockin out dude

  • Great job, man!

  • @werrtyaxel its actually just the recording itself, hes playing louder than the recording
