  • Who knew Phil Ochs made a music video of his swan song and filmed it in this horribly sad, desolate place? This is as depressing as it is fascinating. Thank you very much for posting.

  • What you are listening to IS gold. Anything by Phil Ochs is.

I wonder where this footage was filmed? I'm absolutely fascinated, I'd love to find out more about it.

  • Let's not forget Phil did release a single recorded in Kenya in 1973, and that he continued to perform all through the 70s. His Gunfight at Carnegie Hall album, recorded in 1969, was released in Canada in 1975 and was his actual "last" album. And his last major event, which he organized, was in Central Park in May 1975 for the end of the war in Vietnam.

  • I love Phil Ochs. Just watched his 2010 biography which is available on Netflix streaming. He has been a source of inspiration to me my entire adult life. I will miss him always. Phoenix. Of Blue Phoenix Radio and themuseslair

  • Awesome and sad.

  • It's just like he is singing to us from the other side...really one of the best videos i've seen on youtube

  • hey! isn't that peter fonda at the beginning ("i'm listening for phil ochs")?

  • Wow thanks for the post. I love this song.

  • John Byner doing the intro...

  • Sadly they stared & sank in their chairs and searched for a comforting notion.

And the rich silver walls looked ready to fall As they shook in doubtful devotion.

The ice cubes would clink as they freshened their drinks, wet their minds in bitter emotion. And they talked about the ringing of revolution!

Down on our knees we're begging u please, sorry for the way you were driven. There's no need to taunt just take what you want, & we'll make amends, if we're living.. BUT ONLY THE DEAD R FORGIVEN.

  • Nice melody .. but once there were lyrics of greatness....

In a building of gold, with riches untold,

lived the families on which the country was founded.

And the merchants of style, with their red velvet smiles,

were there, for they also were hounded.

And the soft middle class crowded in to the last,

for the building was fully surrounded.

And the noise outside was the ringing of revolution.

  • The earlier song Rehersals For Retirement was his suicide note. This was his apology for what he perceived to be his failures.

In some respects, it's remarkable he survived as long as he did.
