MSU fans help set crowd record in school's first bowl in seven years
By David Brandt - Clarion Ledger
The echoes of cowbells still were clanging off the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium walls 15 minutes after the game ended.
Some Mississippi State University fans hugged. Others danced after the Bulldogs took another step toward rebuilding their football program.
The Bulldogs capped a breakthrough season by defeating the University of Central Florida 10-3 to claim the Liberty Bowl championship in front of an event-record announced crowd of 63,816 fans - nearly all of whom were clad in the maroon and white of MSU.
Mississippi State (8-5) won in its first bowl appearance since 2000, and coach Sylvester Croom said walking into the Liberty Bowl and seeing the heavily pro-Bulldog crowd is a memory he'll always cherish.
"I'll be very honest - that felt better than any home game we had this year," Croom said. "I couldn't believe when I walked out there before the game and everybody was dressed in maroon."

Was it just me, or did it seem like Croom was being a little conservative on offense in this game? The Egg Bowl, too.
