Program Sponsored by Ministry of Science & Technology and Bentley Honors Students for Envisioning the Infrastructure Future of Delhi

NEW DELHI -- The Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, and Bentley Systems, Incorporated today announced that the project designed by students of Team 1 from Apeejay School, Noida, won top honors in the 2007-2008 Future Cities India 2020 competition. The program, which was launched in 2006 by the Ministry of Science & Technology and Bentley, is a partnership among government, universities, and the business community. It encourages students to use their design skills, along with Bentley's software for the world's infrastructure, to help prepare India's cities for the year 2020, when it is estimated that more than 50 percent of India's citizens will live in the country's largest cities. All submissions provided a plan for the future redevelopment of the Commonwealth Games 2010 international zone, which will consist of temporary structures -- everything from media centers, entertainment facilities, and practice grounds to a commercial center and transportation system -- that will be dismantled at the conclusion of the Games.

  • India has such an exploding middle class full of talent and charisma. India, I think, will be a superpower by 2050.

  • We speak English because of its relevance in International commerce, Availability of Scientific Literature etc. Imagine how much of world literature in Science, Management etc we would have to translate to Hindi/other regional languages otherwise. Besides, speak in 18 officially recognized languages. Easier to learn English & get info rather than translate everything to mother tongue.

  • @MontyPython134 Hopefully just as good as India. An underdeveloped nation is not good for its own people or its surrounding countries.

  • @dbca999 Only 9-12% of India has a decent grasp of English. As India develops and earnings increase eventually demand for content in local languages will increase and replace English. Take the TV before most Indian television was foreign and English now there are hundreds of local content providers. Eventually demand for novels, internet in local languages will increase on its own. Most Indian languages (Punjabi, Tamil, Gujarati etc.) have the same number of speakers as a medium sized country.

  • I would luved to see each & evryone's Indian futuree cities models!!!!!....:)

  • @Goody2shoesambe

i think india will become a superpower before A.D. 2050.

  • vision 2020 is great but we should more stress on keeping the cities clean and neat and providing most basic amenities to people who still dream of basic facilities and a healthy living...

  • one question i want to ask ,..where do you see the backward places especially in most eastern states

  • in my view progress is only taking place in particular states & cities and back ward states and cities are still being ignored...and basic amenities are still lacking for " aam log" ...

  • i just hope those people who are lacking all those basic amenities may at least get basics when urban India is fancying visions

  • Yay! My school wins :P

  • Great video, thank you for sharing it. The thing about india and their students is the amount of competetion one has to face. It is very intence due to our population, but i'm still proud of every sucessful student that comes from india, very hard working and make some of the best doctors worldwide.
