    Can you pickup the gel or whatever on other surfuces than glass? I assume it can only pick up things on a smooth surface.

    The way it works is an extendable Teflon sheet which rolls around the paddle that comes out. That way, there is no wiping motion at all. Instead, the Teflon sheet remains in the same position relative to the surface, while it extends.
