UK Government plans to criminalise Japanese Anime/Manga fans

The UK Government is planning to outlaw mere possesion of cartoon images that appear sexually explicit IF the persons in them APPEAR to be under 18.

How do you tell the age of a cartoon character?

UK fans of Japanese Anime films and Manga comics may soon find themselves looking at a 3 year jail term and an exorbitant fine just for owning a few comics and DVDs which are at present perfectly legal to buy within the UK and are perfectly legal in virtually every other country all because the less media savvy member of parliament find them "disgusting".

Comic shop voice is campaigning against this (fearing the existing Dangerous Pictures Act could also be used to prosecute cartoon images).

@assassin6486 yes it is, the only time there would be a problem is if there were scenes of sexual activity with characters who "appeared" to be under 18. Hentai stuff would most certainly fall foul of this.

I've grown off anime for the reason to protect myself from it's pornoghrpahic nature. We need more sensilbe cartoons. Which we can got.

If this law has passed I have no idea how Manga Entertainment are getting away with releasing Dance In The Vampire Bund. The main character in that show looks like a little girl and is constantly getting her kit off.
