  • is 40 MW alot ? im just wondering how many homes will this system support ?

  • Maybe 10,000 typical homes, or something close to that..... Jim L.

  • This IS the solution. Drop nuclear shit, drop oil, now.

  • There are 9 Solar Generating Stations out in the Mojave desert (SEGS 1 through 9). Out of the 9 stations, 8 of the facilities use Therminol made by Monsanto as the HTF (Heat Transfer Fluid). One station has a field that uses Dow Therm.

Dow Therm has a shorter life than Therminol therefore they prefer the Therminol.

  • Solar power, as we have it through photovoltaic systems and solar thermal, is going to be a long term solution, how ever it will not be a universal one. The same goes with wind energy, not all area's environments will be able to supply a reliable flow of energy. In Germany the green party, with a lot of consultation of the screaming people in the street, have scheduled the complete shutdown of nuclear reactors by 2022, will have a blackouts, the Czechs have already started supply nuclear power.

G'day... Well said, but someone's gotta try SunPowering them suburban Sheeple. Better than fossil fools. Anyway, to collect your Reward, within the Gift Economy, search 'solar thermal ramjet'; & see NASA ride backseat to a Hillbilly. For backstory search 'sunfoil'. Interlocking suite of clips, the "Short-Talk" is best entry point. Debunker-Trolls most welcome, too; try the "SunFoil Science..." clip. Open Source, ENJOY. Ciao!

  • CSP technologies are an attempt to squeeze dispersed solar energy into the old energy central station model that allows utilities to maintain their energy monopoly. These systems are highly inefficient, destroy the environment and are far more expensive than distributed solar PV. Point of use solar in the VAST built environment is cheaper, faster and generates more local economic benefits while protecting our intact desert ecosystems and nation's cultural legacy.

  • Do you happen to know the name of the Israeli company that provided the technology?

  • You know, much of this stuff is pretty simplistic. With the exception of an automated system following the sun, we could have had parabolic mirrors heating up some water in a pipe decades ago. Oh well, better late than never. Btw ppl, carbon is no a pollutant. We exhale CO2 every 4-5s.

  • Great video thanks so much!

  • @msdnvp Actually it is probably more like 5000, I based that on about 3/4 of my house power because it has electric heat for everything. I also rounded up. Small green homes maybe 7-10,000 so jliedel was close.

  • @msdnvp It will power 44 of my homes. It is all electric heat and stuff, we even pump our own water so I would say 50 -100 max.

I totally agree with you here, nuclear waste is / used to be exported to 3rd world countries as Africa at a relatively low price, to be a ticking nuclear bomb.

If the waste were dealt withthe way it ought to, the real cost would be much higher.

The disadvantage of this sytem is that an inmense surface of mirrors should be cleaned daily with special liquid, as water leaves stains, which lowers the efficiency of the system.

Anyone knows how and how often they're cleaned?

*our instead of are. My grammar sucks at night.
