  • Love this guy !!!!

Target on his back after the Derby win, then he contests a tough :46 half in the Preakness, pounces and wins in a driving finish. And another great ride by Victor Espinoza, who rated this majestic, free running colt perfectly. People can knock him as a stud, but he's sired some nice winners. War Emblem will always be a legend to me !

  • After this win, I really thought War Emblem could win all three events. But something always happens!

  • @jdavidcole64 That is correct. I remember thinking the same.

  • One of my favorites. What a pity he isn't too interested in the girls though.

  • War Emblem will always be one of my favorite horses. I saw his 6f work before the Derby and told anyone who would listen he'd be loose on the lead. I bet him in both the Derby and Preakness and made a lot of money on him. War Emblem removed a big financial overhang for me - he retired my student loans. And God bless Richie Migliore and Magic Wiesner for never giving up and getting up for 2nd in the Preakness. They were a good match - a horse and rider that never, ever quit.

  • @alreadygone - he was a Great racehorse....

  • speaking of Oliver's Twist...recall he was owned by Jim McKay...who went on to die on the morning Big Brown went for the Triple Crown... I was hoping that morning it might be an omen.

  • One of the decades great horses.

  • I remember I thopught for sure those fast early fractions from Menacing Dennis would ruin War Emblembut he pressed on and won. Magic Wisnorreminds me a bitof Oliver'sTwist from the mid nineties who nearly pulled off the same upset. I always feel bad for War Emblem he fell flat on his face outof the gate at the Belmont and never really had a chance at the Triple Crown.

  • Didnt know that about Magic Wiesner. Thats a shame.
