Enjoy. Marty Melville

  • do trains have to honk the horn on crossings in NZ too? and what is the track gauge in NZ?

  • Hey

If you are from the US, not as much as they do there, but they are supposed to give a quick toot before the crossing. Depends where it is. The track gauge here is 3'6" classed as narrow gauge.

    Thanks

    Marty

  • I live in New Zealand and have never seen 5 up before. Maybe because its in Wellington with all those pesky hills and grades? Love the sound of the General Electric 7FDL-12 prime mover. I remember when these were first introduced in 1972. Could not miss them as we lived close to the tracks and these sounded so different to the EMD powered locos i was used to.

  • y so many locos was it a long freight

  • i'm not from US, im from germany thats why i ask in germany they dont have to horn
