  • is Quick Oats okay to eat? Or is regular better?

  • @Kaboose786 Steel cut oats are the least processed as they are whole oats that have been sliced. Regular rolled oats are whole oats that have been steamed and pressed. Quick oats have been pre-cooked, dried and rolled - more processing.

  • Great point you made at the beginning about the oats just being cut and NOT steamed or pressed. This would lead me to believe that they are processed less and more natural? So if we were to take this a step further, what are they like when they are harvested in there whole form? Do they just harvest them, cut them and then packaged to eat? Why are rolled oats steamed and pressed down anyway? surprised you put raisins and WALNUTS in the boiling water, wondering what that does to the flavor?

  • @fmbighair YES the oats that are cut have less done to them than rolled oats. You can purchase whole oats. They need to be soaked and cooked quite a whole. Not easy to digest. I believe that the heat on the walnuts and raisins improves their flavor. You can add them raw if you prefer.

  • how do you make a big batch without it turning into a solid mass after its been in the fridge overnight

  • @hypnos315 You have to add more liquid and re-heat. Like most cooked food, moisture is lost in the refrigerator.

  • No one boils walnuts or toppings, that ruins the taste and texture and destroys nutrients

  • It looked like you had more than half a cup of the oats! Alsom Cynthia is a greal looking gal and a great sense of humor. I really liked it when she started fooling around with her ad-lib siinging and dancing. It'd be greattp have her instruct on some recipe with her singing as she's cookking. Dont'ya think???

  • damn, you got it going on pimp.

  • When the boil gets slower and deeper I usually take it off and eat it then.

  • julikca,

If it's not crunchy, it's done, at least for me. You can cook it longer and add more water to soften it up, but it sounds like you know what you're doing. How was it?

  • i simmered it on MEDIUM for about 20 minutes, but i can't tell if it's cooked. So I just ate it....

Does it take longer to digest it or should I not have eaten it at all?

  • STOP IT! STOP IT!

    lol I hate whistling kettles

  • is this the only way to eat it? or can i just eat it with water?

  • Freaks

  • lol she is crazyyyy i like her she cracks me up
