This fairy tale was written bij the Belgian queen Fabiola. Story from wikipedia:
Far away in the Indian jungle, there lies a small and mysterious lake. When the moon rises, big and yellow, to the sky, the moon goddess and hundreds of stars come down to dance on the lake. They dance, all night long, to the chants of a witch who is standing beside the waterfall. With dawn, the moon goddess claps her hands and all of them must return to the skies. But one night, seven stars continued to dance. They suffered heavily for their disobedience: the witch had them in her power and changed them into fairies, forcing them to dance on the water-lilies forever.
This is one of the first times that Efteling produced a mechanically driven set to play out the story. Originally the mechanics used punched tapes to drive the movements, later this was replaced by computer control.
Originally the introduction was read by a woman but recently the story was destroyed by the current narrator, Paul de Leeuw, the guy that was deservedly called an 'eejit' by Terry Wogan a few years ago during the voting for the Eurovision song contest. I was told that Paul de Leeuw has many talents but story-telling clearly is not one of them. One of the biggest Efteling fan sites has a suggestion board where improvements for the park can be proposed and voted on. Getting rid of Pauls voice has been in the top 3 for over a year now so maybe someone at the Efteling park will wake up some time soon and replace the voice-over with a female one who *can* read stories!
