  • I always laugh at this when I see this movie:

Cossacks knew the art of teleportation - compare 4:26 and 4:37.

How did they manage to escape when cavalry was already chasing them?

  • 3:15 = Most badass pose known to man, sword, pipe, mohawk and mustache is a recipe for pure awesomeness

  • 3 or more volley of musket fire..no horse died :O

At long range, as you say, a heavy breastplate might have stopped a musket round, but you'd have been very unlucky to have been hit at anything over 100m (or even 50m!).

I'm pretty sure no armour was ever proof against a musket, or if it was it made its wearer an invulnerable dummy. A year or two ago the BBC ran a documentary on the Mary Rose (I think) and tested a heavy breastplate against a .45 ACP round from a Colt M1911. A dent, no more, which surprised me. A shot from a musket at the same range (about 10 metres, as I recall) blew a tennis-ball sized hole.

  • wow cossacks are such trolls

  • @Tomenable

For example in that Museum there is a breastplate with inventory number 629x - it weighs 9,01 kg and its maximum thickness is 7mm. Another breastplate - inventory number 882x - has maximum thickness 9mm. Another one - 678x (there is even a photo of this one in the internet) weighs 8 kg and its maximum thickness is 7mm (like in case of example number 629x).

Depends from what distance - if a musket ball was fired from large distance then thick enough armor of good quality could stop it. Breastplates of Winged Hussars often used to be very thick - up to 9mm. For example in the Museum of the Polish Army in Warsaw you can find 7mm and even 9mm thick original examples.

Also vs balls of anything lighter and of smaller calibre and thus less kinetic energy than musket (like arquebus or pistol) such thick armor could easily protect

  • wats the movie called?

  • @Tomenable exactly

  • lol at 2 min in, "they are preparing for battle, and the cossacks jsut sit down ans smoke. you know their pro when you smoke befor beating some guy up.

and the one polish guy in the wagon, captured by the cossacks, you can see the disapointment in his face.

I also love the part where they advance and fall back the whole night, the poles must have been pissed, like WTF I WANT TO SLEEP!!!!

  • @Olhor10 yes it was
