Some scenes of the real West Coast Main Line, including the scenic location of Old Linslade, just north of the Linslade tunnels, and Leighton Buzzard. These were filmed in October 2004, to assist me in developing the Watford Junction to Rugby route for openBVE. At the time, class 87s were still running.

In this video, you'll see classes 58, 60 and 66 (diesel locos), a class 150 (diesel multiple unit), classes 87, 90 and 92 (25kV AC electric locos), as well as classes 321 and 390 (25kV AC electric multiple units). Line speeds on the fast lines at this location are 90 mph (145 km/h) for non-tilting passenger trains and 125 mph (201 km/h) for tilting trains, and 90 mph on the slow lines.

These shots were filmed on a Mini-DV camcorder, and are only in standard definition, unfortunately.

  • Nice to see Loco hauled expresses again!!

  • Hi Amanda,

Indeed, yes! I was pleased to see the 92 and the diesels, but I really wanted to have some shots of the 87s before it was too late, so I'm especially glad about those.

    Thanks for commenting! :-)

  • Thanks to you both. :-) I think Old Linslade is one of the nicest locations on the southern section of the WCML.

  • Ah the old car train, doesn't run anymore does it?

  • Great Vid, was this before or after Silverlink stopped serving Birmingham from London?

  • I love the sound that the 321's make when they are pulling out of a station. Also the alarm going off in the background I believe that was my parents deawoo musso. We had some issues with that car.

  • What's the strange alarm noise you hear throughout the video (eg at 2:59)

  • Nice video

    Good job! ;)

  • Very nice shots, favved!

May I expect other route parts too? :)

  • Nifty, a goods train with three locos and only 27 wagons :) What was that all about?

Also, those trackside construction vehicle lights that make the funny noise, that you demonstrate in one of the WJ-R videos. Oddly they seem to make the noise only as the train is passing, so I am not sure who they're trying to alert, and of what.

Also, I was curious about the 8-car Pendolinos, only to discover that they gained the ninth car in 2004 and ... your video is from 2004!

  • Nice video!

  • beautiful scenery over there!
