DeLoreans are not that rare. There are about 5000 of them left out of the ~8500 originally produced. You can get one for under $10,000 if you are willing to put some work into it.

If you do it correctly the wear would be minimal. Don't forget because of the amazing torque of the electric motor, you really don't need to shift at all.
