@markalson1938 That would be good of you, Mark. Thanks for the all terrific material you've posted on You-tube.

Plain and soft? MacRae's tone is epitome of strong - 'robust' is the appropriate word to describe it. In my opinion he is perfection on this song.
-
You go, MacRae! I think he did a good job here.
-
Better than Frankie's version which is too tinny. Gordie has a nice fat tone.
-
In my opinion Gordon MacRae's voice is
too plain and soft for this song which calls
for a much more dynamic and stronger
tone.

I understand that taste is subjective-no need to apologize. Lorraine

I wouldn't spend long hours debating who sang this novelty sang this song best, but Frankie Laine's "tinny" (as opposed to "tiny") voice" was actually pretty good for it. Bing Crosby's mellowness sounds a bit ridiculous for it (but, then, maybe it was supposed to). Gordon's is pretty good, here. A very good rendition was done by Frank Ifield but no one has posted it on You-tube.

Very nice rendition of "Mule Train". Nelson Eddy also recorded a nice version of "Mule Train". Lorraine

I thought I had all the versions of "Mule Train" But I never heard Nelson Eddy do it. But then he did do "Shortin' Bread"

Nelson`s rendition of "Mule Train" is included on the Nelson Eddy "Out of The Night" CD. Lorraine

I just got the Nelson Eddy CD and I was disapointed. The quality of the CD was very poor with noice and periods when the sound fades out. Also Nelson has a great voice but not for this type of music. He sings "Mule Train" and "Rider's In The Sky" as if they were part of one of his Operettas. Sorry

I was able to clean up the Eddy recordings and now they don't alright. So I thought you would like to know that I just put "Mule Train"
and "Riders In The Sky" on YouTube
