  • And in this clip here lies the possible motivation for his whole idea: a disbelief that objects can be drawn with exacting accuracy, because he himself finds it impossible and that therefore a device must have been used. Tempting to believe that this is the reason behind this whole escapade.

  • @vlxznd "Incomptent " is a stretch, but yes, his theories are almost entirely without evidence.

  • it is entirely possible to paint and draw beautifully accurately and even imagined people, figure, and landscape. It is totally possible. It's very difficult, but talented people who worked hard at their craft do achieved it.

Hockney only have to go to the studio of great illustrators and great painters to see the proof.

search Jim Lee- the amazing comic book artists draw a whole scene from his imagination.

  • MANY THEORIES THAT WERE PROVEN LATER ON IN LIFE WERE JUST THEORIES THAT COULD NOT BE PROVEN AT THE TIME. BUT MOST THEORIES ARE INTELLIGENT CALCULATIONS. IM TIRED OF NOT BELIEVING PEOPLE. I WANT TO BELIEVE PEOPLE. GOD DAMNIT THATS ALL WE CAN DO!! WE DENY, DENY DENY. ARE WE SO MUCH ALL LIARS?

  • one of the missing links, great observer and thinker

    looking is evidence enough

  • this is one of the most interesting clever and pleasant investigation on the nature and power of images. That lens and optics were in use amongst the Masters (at least from the 17th century), is a very well known and documented practice. Now David Hockney has been able to demonstrate that optics started to be used much earlier, back in the 1420s ... it makes sense.

  • Hockney is not discrediting these artists by his theory. Nor was his theory conjured up on his supposed lack of artistic ability. He recognizes the incredible skill involved even with the use of optical aids. Even if Hockney is correct, and an image is projected and traced onto the surface, it still takes an extraordinary amount of skill to paint it in a realistic fashion. Try it at home, trace a photo. Then paint it. Projected or not, it still takes the work of a master to complete.

  • mostly ridiculous theories from an incompetent draftsman
