  • Burning plasma VS a piece of nothing? lol

  • The size of the "boom" is dependent on the size of the object breaking the sound barrier. The sound of a whip cracking is actualy a "sonic boom" as the tip of the whip is breaking the sound barrier. Same goes for bullets or anything else that breaks the sound barrier however your not going to hear an earth shattering explosion on a small projectile.

  • Using compressed air in a railgun is beside the point of even having a railgun.

  • A suppressor can make a M16/AR-15 quiet enough you don't need hearing protection.

Suppressors don't "bleed off the pressure" or otherwise slow bullets down. (A suppressor will actually speed the bullet up slightly)

Special ammo will have a velocity of less than 1000fps (slower than sound) and will be much quieter.

A bullet that passes only a few feet from you sounds like someone snapped fingers very loud. Closer and it sounds like a small firecracker.

  • well, thats not entirely true, it depends on the size and how much velocity the projectile can gain.

  • do u have an aircompresser on that thing if u dont i suggjest puting a 300psi aircompresser on it and put all 300psi of that air in tothat thing at the same time u apply the voltage idid that on my 5.3kj one and it workes at near the same m/s as yours (358.695m/s)

  • at sea level an 15C (59F) speed of sound is 340m/s so thats like 10x as fast, an yeah sonic booms are real loud but thats on something big not sure bout projectile size but its probably small enuf for us not to really notice it

bullets go past speed of sound, but no big sonic boom just the gun actually firing therefore if ur getting shot at u get hit by the bullet before u actually hear the gun fire if there is a sonic boom where is it id actually like to know ?

  • if a projectile breaks the sound barrier it makes a sonic boom, this is why you cant silence something like an m16 without bleeding off some of the pressure to slow the bullet down to subsonic speeds. sonic booms are v.loud

  • the speed of a railgun is 3500 m/s :)
