Out of the blue, I got this DVD in my mail. One choir performed one of my song "Smile". I do not know the conductor, nor any soul in the chorus group.
My mother passed away when I was six. I was too little to know how to say "good bye" to her. Throughout the years, the only thing she left me was a 5 X 7 black and white photo that is on my nightstand. 50 years later, I wrote the book "one ray of light at dawn", 12 lyrics and composed 12 melodies. After the book was published, translated into English, CD recorded and DVD produced, I knew that was the way I finally said "good bye" to her. Saying goodbye takes only five seconds, sometimes 5 minutes, 5 hours, 5 days, 5 weeks, 5 months, 5 years. Sometimes, 50 years. The chapter was closed then until I heard this singing, it did rekindle my faded memory and it looks like my mother is smiling up there too.
P.S. With a smile, Master Cheng Yen recited part of the lyrics on Daai TV many years ago. Please roll down the screen on youtube to read the lyrics.
The English translation of the lyrics (by Wendy Lin):
This is the secret of the universe
A smile does not recognize success or fame
A smile does not care even if you have nothing
When you desire nothing then you will have a true smile
When you find your own smile then you'll find
The brightness of the sun The twinkling of the stars
The flower will become especially fragrant
The wind will become especially gentle
The worries will be like one single raindrop on earth you wo'nt be able to find it
This world is waiting to smile at you
Wayne, this is beautiful. Thank you too for the translation of the song. It is absolutely lovely. I am sure your mother is up there smiling. She was so fortunate to have such a loving son as you.
