There are many video clips of retractable Fords and 4-door Lincoln convertible tops on Youtube but no 1958-1960 Lincolns. So here's a clip showing the convertible top in action. These cars are over 19 feet in length, weigh in at about 5400 pounds and are of unitbody construction. The reverse slant glass rear window opens and closes electrically and the whole rear window frame is pulled down into the car, taking the top with it. The tops locks to the windshield header by electrically driven screws. With the top crammed in the storage compartment there is still a hugh trunk behind it, unlike the Fords with their small luggage tubs and the 4-door Lincolns with very little storage.

  • does the 4 door 1960 continental also come with the convertible option? I 've never seen any convertible 4 doors only 2 door convertibles

  • No, the 4 door converts started in 1961. In spite of the hugh size of the 58-60 cars, a 4 door would not have worked with the top well mech. Of course, if they had it fold in the trunk......

  • Very nice...

  • Lincoln had something no one else did in this convertible. Wish my 1993 Allante's top worked this well!

  • @Mrphatbastard1 One might think so. But back then and even during the 1950's, Caddy outsold Lincoln, Imperial, Packard combined.

  • With cars this magnificent, I'm amazed Cadillac even stayed in business...

  • Incredible - that's the same technology they use in the space shuttle to open the solar panels in space it seems.

  • that's classic

  • cool, they don't do it any better on current models!

  • @mickeynraleigh

    I would wait....if I had a car like that.
