Elvis Presley Pieces of My Life
Written by Troy Seals. Elvis recorded it March 13, 1975 at RCAs Hollywood studios. The single release had a 10-week stay on Billboards Country chart, peaking at #33. It was the B-side to Bringing it Back. It is available on Always on My Mind, Elvis Today, and Walk a Mile in My Shoes: The Essential 70s Masters.

A water glass full of whiskey
And women that I never knew too well
Lord, the things I've seen and done
Most of which I'd be ashamed to tell

I don't know how it started
But that's what makes a man a man, I guess
Now I'm holdin' on to nothing
Tryin' to forget the rest

I'm lookin' back on my life
To see if I can find the pieces
I know that some were stolen
And some just blew away
Well, I found the bad parts
Found all the sad parts
But I guess I threw the best parts away
Lord away, away

Playing the bars, playing like a star
Anything to get a name
Carrying on, living on songs
my friends wrote for me to sing

I'm lookin' back on my life
To see if I can find the pieces
I know that some were stolen
And some just blew away
Well, I found the bad parts
Found all the sad parts
But I guess I threw the best parts away
away, away

Lord, the pieces of my life
They're everywhere, they're everywhere
And the one I miss most of all
Is you and you know who

Looking back on my life, Lord
To see if I can find the pieces
Looking back on my life today
To see if I can find the pieces
Looking back on my life
God, help me find the pieces

  • @22Jeanie So sorry about your husband Jeanie. We are lucky aren't we to have this wonderful man to turn to at any time and to share so very many emotions. He is a huge counselling session for us people lucky enough to have lived during his time. There will never be another one that's for sure. Keep enjoying the music girl. Try slipping one or two happy songs in and let him make you smile too - it might help even more. Be strong. Take good care of yourself. Good Night. Ann

  • This says it all doesn't it? We all know who ' You know who' was. I get so angry with him sometimes but it is an anger borne of love. I will love this man until I shuffle off my mortal coil. He has been such a massive part of my life and has even, in weird and wonderful ways, directed certain aspects of it. Rest easy my wonderful friend. Almost 35 years and so many of us still counting. Thank You for everything Elvis.
