Just a little fun video. 1st part is during a cruise thru The Valley of Fire near Las Vegas, the 2nd part was shot to show the exhaust sound and LACK of valve train noise...
@Kronaphasia As someone who had a '71, I think the 'valve train noise' he's referring to is the annoyingly loud mechanical fuel pump. Since there's a block-off plate where it used to be and you can make out the clicking of the electrical pump when he turns the ignition on, I'd say he's taken care of that little annoyance. ;) The rest of the motor sounds normal to me!
If your valve train is not making clicking noise on an L6 then your valve lash is ajusted too tight. You are doing damage to the rockers, camsfaft, valve & valve seats if they are too tight.
@murkangel the little vents that run inside the dashpot to release the air pressue in the oil chamber are too small get the des hammil book on tuning SU's the tip is right near the back. I reamed out the little holes with a drill and the change in mid throttle response was astounding...
yeah,i would totally go for a triple weber conversion, but its kinda hard to come around an extra 1000 dollars (2000$ if you also count my disk break conversion thats also holding me down)
awesome Z, i also own a 240z '71...and i have a question for you,how do i tune my dam SU carbs, everytime i give throttle my engine boggs down,i think it might be timming or my carbs are out of tune, what do you think

SU's are really picky about their float bowl levels. Either that or you need to rejet them. In any case i gave up on my SU's a long time ago.
