Winning Places is a brand new partnership project between Northern Architecture and The Building Exploratory in Hackney, inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It is supported by CABE's OSpace programme.
Winning Places engaged an over 55s group to explore sporting architecture in Tyne and Wear. The group meet with built environment, heritage and sports professionals at some of the regions elite sporting facilities. They looked at the design and role these venues play in regeneration and shaping the identity of where we live in the run up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
In this film the group tour Gateshead International Stadium and the Academy of Sport with deputy manager, Andrew Laidler. They are also joined by Stephen Wilson from the Neighbourhood Management team at Gateshead Council to think about the relationship between the stadium and local residents.
