I think that the term "Pocket Rocket" was meant for the earlier versions - because as I understand that the later 500 series was actually underpowered
You would be mistaken that the BAC 111 had inadequate thrust when comparing the size of the engines to our current aircraft. But each rollroyce engine was rated at 10,000 Ib of thrust and an empty weight of just 46,000IB's. The 737 classic has the same rated thrust but with an enpty wiehgt of 68,000Ib's. Is the thrust noticeable during takeoff on the BAC 111, how does it compare?
classic! i used to wish santa clause every christmas for one of this bird. the closest thing i got were flights in this beauty when i was a kid. during those times, that plane was mine!:)
I flew on BAC-11's as they were known, many times with Allegheny and later US Air. I always found them to be comfortable, reliable airplanes. Yes they were noisey, I lived near LaGuardia airport, so I know first hand but from the inside, if you sat in the front, you barely heard the engines. By the way, no matter how loud they were, the sound of a jet at takeoff thrust is **always** pleasing to me!

Most likely, but i bet at lighter weights they still felt quite rockety.

When I mean 737, I'm actually referring to the 737-500, the smallest of the two.
