DFS CRUFTS 2010 - International freestyle - France representant Speedy border collie

4 fabulous days spent at Crufts. I would start by precising that we knew only 2 months before that we were going to Crufts. In addition our last competition (winterthur) had been 1 year before and since then we did not plan to enter any competition, so no preparation of a new routine done. And no practice in a busy environment...
So, we were not ready, but it's still a great experience anyway !
I have to say I was really nervous. I had never been that nervous before, I think. It was a quite strange feeling that I was not used to keep under control. And that's why every 30 secondes during the prestation I was asking myself "Oh my god, what's next, where I am, what do I have to do", and I didn't give Speedy the half of the commands, and I couldnt help touching him, etc...
However, Speedy did be really good ! Quite relaxed, not too bad concentrated, motivated but not over excited (He did not bark). He stayed with me and was not slow at all, and I can tell you, it was really busy and noisy in the arena... And he raised his pauws very high ! And never stop shaking his tail ! Fantastic.
However he unfortunately broke the eye-contact sometimes. Such a shame, because when he was staring at me, he was really good ! So now I "just" have to manage to have him watching at me non-stop, until the end of the routine...
So, my reflex (very bad) was to handle him when he broke that contact, by touching him and making him turning his head towards me.... knowing that I will have some points off for that, but I really didn't want to give him the chance to drop out. He failed the final trick because I didn't say "wait" so he climb before I was ready...

About results, 22.97/30, so we came 12th/13. I admit that I was quite disapointed, I didnt expected to do that bad. I knew we weren't ready at all, but not at that level. Even after my performance I hadn't realise we were that bad.
After having re-watched the video though, no way, knowing how we were not ready, we couldnt really do better. He was really good apart from when he broke the eye-contact. Later the judges explained to me that they had to take a lot of points off because of the fact that I handled him quite a lot, otherwise it would have been that bad.

4 fantastics jours passés à Crufts. Je commencerais par préciser qu'on a appris seulement 2 mois à l'avance qu'on allait y participer. Alors que notre dernier concours (winterthur), était 1 an en arrière et que depuis ca, on ne s'attendait pas a faire le moindre concours, donc aucune préparation de nouvelle chorégraphie. Sans parler du manque d'entrainement en milieu riche...
Bref, on était pas prêt, mais bon, c'est toujours une super experience.
Je dois dire que j'étais completement stressé. J'avais jamais autant stressé je pense, c'était une sensation assez etrange que je n'ai pas l'habitude de gérer. Et c'est comme ca que toutes les 30 secondes je me retrouvais a me dire "mince, c'est quoi la suite, je suis ou je dois faire quoi", et que je ne donnais pas la moitié des informations a Speedy, et que je ne pouvais pas m'empecher de le toucher, etc...
En revanche, Speedy, lui, etait chouette. Assez décontracte, pas mal concentré, motivé mais pas non plus surexcité (il n'a pas aboyé). Il est resté avec moi et n'était pas lent du tout, alors que je peux vous le dire, il y en avait du monde et du bruit... Et il m'a lancé des jettés de pattes (en trot espagnol) absolutement fantastic.
Il a très malheureusement décroché par moment. Mais c'est bête, car sinon, quand il me regardait, il était genial ! Il faudrait juste que j'arrive a obtenir ce contact constamment et qu'il ne me lache pas du regard avant la fin de la choré...
Du coup, mon reflex, a chaque fois qu'il "lachait", c'etait de lui tourner la tete vers moi.... sachant que ca me pénaliserait, mais bon, je ne voulais pas lui laisser l'opportunité de décrocher.
Il a loupé le final car j'ai oublié de lui dire d'attendre, du coup il est monté sans que je m'y attende...

Niveau résultat, 22.97/30, ce qui nous place 12eme/13. J'avoue que j'ai été tres décue, je ne m'attendais pas a faire si mal. Je savais que l'on était pas prêt du tout, mais pas a ce point. Meme apres ma choré, je n'avais pas réalisé qu'on avait été si mauvais.
Bon, cela dit, une fois avoir revisionner la video, y a rien a faire, vu comme on était pas prêt, on aurait difficilement pû faire mieux, il a vraiment bien bossé a part le fait qu'il me lachait des yeux. Les juges m'ont expliqué par la suite qu'ils ont dû m'enlever beaucoup de points à cause du fait que je l'ai beaucoup touché, que sinon ca n'aurait pas été si mal.

Avant de lire les explications, j'ai trouvé le numéro pas mal, mais en effet, il y a une sorte de manque d'assurance qu'on ressent.

Alors bien sûr, en considérant que vous n'étiez pas vraiment prêts, et aussi à quel point ça doit être impressionnant de se retrouver devant le public de la Crufts, on comprend bien les petites hésitations, ou les touchers.

Cela reste une magnifique prestation, et j'imagine qu'avec les nerfs bien maîtrisés...ça va faire mal ! Bravo !
