@jmiller8563 I leave for boot Jan 3rd, 13xx too. Sandersq45 is right, depends on how well you do in your mos school
-
@Sandersq45 I hope so Marine... I really wanted Infantry and my recruiters are trying to get me 03xx, but those slots are hard to come by these days (go figure). My next choice is a 13xx/11xx contract. If I can't get Infantry I'd like to be a combat engineer. But with that dual construction-utilities contract, I could end up a Water Technician or a Bulk Fuel Specialist. I've heard horror stories from Marines on message boards who have had that happen to them...

@jmiller8563 more than likely you will get 1371 man
we are in high demand as an MOS.
-
ah, shit memories.
gotta love CHB.

I've signed a contract for 13xx, I leave for boot camp in January... What is the best way I can secure 1371 as my MOS?
-
@sodajones uh no... im a 1371 we deploy to combat zones all the time back to back there are e-3's on their 3rd deployment... and we do run with the grunts all the freakin time
I just signed my contract as a Combat Engineer. What determines whether you get division, MLG, or airwing? Im assuming you get placed in whichever field you do best in at your MOS school?

@skatebaker2401 It's the luck of the draw. You put in a wish list for east, west, or overseas (Okinawa). I don't think you can specify wing/esb/ceb

can a woman be a combat engineer in the marine corps?
SuperMarian93 7 months ago
@SuperMarian93 Yes, however they are not assigned to division engineer units (CEB) only ESB or Wing engineer units

One thing of note is how combat engineers have not been used during these two current wars. With a few exceptions here and there, there has not been much use of engineers for breaching during operations with infantry. Basically, the assault man infantry MOS (which is being phased out I hear) has taken the role that engineers filled in WW2/Korea/Nam' with regards to breaching responsibilities in an organic platoon.

MLG is the middle ground. Could end up doing a lot of construction, bridge building, route clearance, weapons cache demo, etc. It's really the luck of the draw. Next up is Airwing. Wingers have some exclusive responsibilities the revolve around the establishment and maintenance of the airfield. You may be responsible for clearing a potential airfield of IEDs/mines, and then work with HE operators to actually build the airfield......continued....
