The 7 Mimi Out Tonight

Yes folks you heard it right. This here video is out tonight from the hit broadway musical RENT with 7 DIFFERENT MIMIS!! Its good. These lovely Mimi Marquez s are (in order of appearance) Antonique Smith Tamyra Gray Jaime Lee Kirchner Daphne Rubin-Vega Rosario Dawson Simone and Karen Mok. I debated putting in Rosario, but shes just as much a Mimi as the rest of them. just because she wasn't on stage doesn't mean shes not a Mimi. This is also a tribute to Rent because it is closing and what better way to to pay tribute than to use my favorite song with my favorite character?

Of course Rosario's going to sound better, it's the FILM version. As in, massively edited, layered, honeyed etc. I do love her, though, but we can't say how good she'd be live.

Just because Rosario was in the film, doesnt mean she doesnt have talent. Look at the girl who played JoAnn in the fims. She ended up doing the final cast performances and the hollywood bowl, and in all 3 she sounded exactly the same

in my opion the best two mimi's are Daphne rubin vega and rosario dawson. they both brought so much into the role as mimi. Daphne as that high pitched edge with some grit in it, and rosario has that playful side of mimi and the hope and love to it. both of their dances was great , daphne on the railing doing dangerous stuff that she makes look so easy. while rosario if sexy and shows mimi's s&m dance at the cat scratch club , and is confident enough to be able to wear the outfit

@1greatleysteg actually if you go to the rent documentary it has a clip of rosarios audition tape and there was not any autotune even no back up music, just her voice and she still sounded great naturally .

Daphne is the first, best, and only Mimi for me. She belts out those notes while taking risk that the other girls didn't and probably couldn't. That backbend of Daphne's while belting out the high note while wearing heels on a 1.5 inch thick rail is awesome and a sign of true talent...there was some good singers, but the entire embodiment of Mimi is handsdown Daphne...
