We had a train trestle fire like this down here in georgia, it was about this extensive, completely destroyed it because it was it crossed a salt marsh on the coast so it made it pretty difficult to put out

Excellent illustration of the risks of burning creosoted wood; it burns fast and tends to light its own that way, too. :-S Which railroad owned this trestle; and did they put up a steel and concrete replacement for it?

relatively long-burning initial fires...

Watching this video made me very angry, i dunno why. Maybe the fire represents the auto+oil industries attempts to thwart pax rail transportation expanding to the level it used to be, and the trestle represents our fragile and overworked rail infrastructure. Hope the guy who did it gets to break rocks in a jail yard for the rest of his life!

Jose Moran-Marquez plead guilty to lying to a federal agent and was sentenced to time already served and will be deported. The US Attorney said they did not have enough evidence to charge him with setting the fire.
