Probably not the best place and time to choose, just as road traffic has just been given a green light and all. The motorcyclist next to me advises the mother to teach her child to use the crossing. Have to say that I agree with their comment, as otherwise we will just be raising a generation who thinks it is perfectly acceptable to step out in front of moving traffic. Yes I know (now) that they have a right to do this but it is not always the most sensible thing to do and how can a child, with no driving experience, make the critical decision "is that car too close and will the driver see me?"

  • Surely there's nothing wrong with pedestrians crossing the road away from crossings? This is the public highway, for use by all, and I feel this is getting just a little too close to the "roads are for cars" brigade.

  • @CyclingMikey

I think it has been established by now that pedestrians have that right but does it still make sense to cross a busy road where this lady chose to, dragging her child with her? What does this teach the child? As a parent myself I make every effort to teach my son the green cross code. The point of this clip is all about what we are teaching our children when it comes to crossing roads.

  • Strangely here, it looks like if she carried on walking there would have been no problem at all...

  • @kmcyc The only thing I saw wrong there was the vehicular road users pushing up to them impatiently. No need to accelerate so hard in that situation, especially with standing traffic ahead.

  • She doesn't know how to use one herself by the looks of things.
