yeah you're right. they are techincally called producers, and i think people should stick to those terms. the problem is, most people still refer to the "producers" as DJ's, and therein lies the confusion.

Ok this is where we get into trouble.. Avicii, Zeds Dead etc. are producers, not DJs. DJs need producers to make the music they mix, and producers need DJs to spread their music around in the club environment.

not really. the fact that you can prepare a mix and hit play speaks volumes. when i'm talking about creating music, you can hear DJ's original works. guys like avicii, zeds dead, and dj's from all sorts of genres from house to psytrance and everything in between. these guys compose their own music. then you have household DJ's who use those guys' original works and fuse them in a mix. effects, layering, and all that included. i just don't like how the title of "DJ" applies to both

Well then it sounds like your problem is with the entire concept of the DJ. The DJ's skills lie in being able to take something mundane: playing two records for example, and turn it into a performance, mix songs together in a way that sounds like a single mix, add layering, etc. Real mixes are definitely not playlists.. playlists play one song at a time in order. Mixes utilize 2 to 4 decks, effects, tricks, layering, scratching, controllerism, and many other possibilities.

even real mixes are just glorified playlists. i mean sure, it is much harder than just putting together a playlist on itunes, because you have to find songs that flow, find the right points to mesh them and all, but in the end, you aren't creating your own music, but rather are just replaying what somebody else created.
