Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man will arrive at Broadway's Hilton Theatre Feb. 18, 2010, producers said yesterday.

With new music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge, and direction by Julie Taymor ("The Lion King"), "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" will begin previews Jan. 16. (The subtitle is the name of one of the show's songs.)

"Spider-Man" will draw from more than 40 years of Marvel comics history for inspiration.

It will stay true to the familiar tale of a young man propelled from a modest rowhouse in Queens to the sky-scraping spire of the Chrysler Building when he's bitten by a genetically altered spider.

  • You obviously don't know a thing about musical theater.

sure spiderman musical seems STRANGE. but i resent the "gay broadway actor" comment; first of all broadway actors are VERY HARDWORKING and whether they are gay or not is none of your business and unimportant. -.-

and second of all ITS A ROCK MUSICAL. they're putting it to rock/punk music -- not oklahoma. there are all sorts of genres to musical theatre, and there are MANY MANY good contemporary rock opera/musicals.

  • theatre isnt just the glitzy glitter stuff you may have heard of. I dont like the idea of a spiderman musical either, but look at alot of musicals out there, like Les Miserables, Sweeney Todd and and Repo! the Genetic Opera (which didn't make it to broadway but still existed on stage).

  • @hisakatapictures Just got tickets for opening 'preview night'...:) Can't wati!

Reeve Carney will be playing peter...FANATIC choice amazing vocals! And an actor as well! ...

  • This is going to be fierce. Julie Taymor, Bono, Evan Rachel Wood, Jim Sturgess, Modern Broadway Technology? I'm excited. I like seeing risks taken, and I like new faces on broadway.

  • superman was adapted into a musical for stage many years ago, so i guess anyone is up for personal gain

  • I say give the musical a chance, I am willing to and trust me I am a strong comic book/graphic novel and comic book movie lover. Plus Spiderman sonuds a lot easier to adapt to a musical then some other stuff I mean can you imagine Superman the musical, Gi Joe the musical? Wanted the Musical? I dont think so.

  • yeah i agree julie taymour even said we will ever see peter singing in costume so thats a start. Plus its U2 whos doing the music and U2 are the highest grossing and of all time (or have won the most grammys or something like that). I have no doubt that whatever happes the music will be good.
