TONY TAHE An Original Salsa Voice Heating Up The Scene in Paris France: Review
Shortly before his death, percussion legend Ray Baretto expounded on the bravery of Machito and Mario Bauza, "at a time when it wasn't the norm Machito asserted his Afro Cubaness - the blackness of their orchestra The Afro Cubans." No one can deny that when Frank Grillo begins singing in nanigo you are one generation away from African singing - one of the building blocks of Salsa.

I believe Salsa needs to return to its African soul and where that would most clearly be enunciated would be in the vocal arrangements. While Salsa has made great strides in orchestral arrangements, the vocal arrangements have developed as far as incorporating Doo Wop swing but that's about it.

What TONY TAHE brings to the table is an original style of phrasing in both the lead and coros. Transcending the foundation laid down Afrikando (The powerhouse Senegalese project of musician and star producer Ibrahim Sylla. Salsa has been a hugely popular style in Senegal since the 1940-50s, and his goal has been to cultivate the tradition from the African side of the Atlantic.)

TAHE has not only picked up that torch but stoked it with ambition to spread Salsa across Africa.

He brings his village to your ears and mind utilizing tribal choruses with a combination of Ivory Coast Indigenous and French language lyrics

His phrases are not typical "Baby Lets Dance" but stoked with secular and Christian observations. Yes, Mssr. Tony Tahe deeply believes in the golden rule and his music is infected with a happy relaxed swing that demonstrates a man who has lived life and always moves forward following his bliss. But enough of me. Judge for yourself.
