Good way to turn bad into good. root cause of the lesson, don't speed in any car. Clean is one thing but safe and law abiding is another. I read about a Tesla owner getting a ticket doing 100 mph. That's unsafe no matter what.
Thta's why when I ride my bicycle I try no to go to fast, it's much easier on a bicycle with you as the power, whew . Drive a bicycle and be safe for others. Speed kills

How's the car during the cold? Do you have to start it and let it warm up a bit before driving off like a gas engine?

The car all by itself doesn't produce any heat. You simply turn the car on and drive. No warm up needed. The car runs very well in cold weather, but lead acid batteries will not have as good range when they are cold. Ideally, it's nicest to keep an EV inside a garage, attached or heated is really nice.

So, to clarify, the motor has no problem in cold weather, but batteries do in terms of range, right? I'm planning to put together an electric car, myself, but I'm in Alaska, so I want to make sure it can handle the winters up here.

That's right.
You would want to use some sort of electric heater to keep the batteries (and you!) warm.

The solid coupler is working great, very smooth and quiet
In the cold, I am running about 250 watt-hours per mile.
You just wait til next summer when I figure out how to make this thing run on 144 volts!!!
