This is the second video of a "A Progressive Communications Receiver" project from Nov. '81 QST designed by Wes Hayward W7ZOI and John Lawson K5IRK. I have been using the receiver on the air for QRP QSO's.

This video shows all the circuit boards with controls mounted in the homebrew enclosure and on the air.
The multiband receiver as shown here is 80, 40, 30, and 20m with provisions to add 2 more bands and an additional 600Hz IF filter.

For more details on this project you can check out my webpage at:

Good luck to you on YOUR workbench,
Aaron, N9SKN

  • Thank you, Greg.

I ran into some pics of that Electroluminescent RX and that looks like a lot of fun too.

    Aaron

  • Thanks Tom.

A congratulations from an expereinced builder as yourself means alot.

I have enjoyed checking out your projects here as well.

The speaker grill has two layers of aluminum screen 'staggered' to form a tighter mesh pattern under the PC fan guard.

The RX is fun to operate.

    73's,

    Aaron

  • Thanks, Ken.

For the video I used the 2 1/2" speaker mounted on the front of the RX.

    No false advertising :)

  • Nice build! I really liked how the changing the BFO also changed your freq display from USB - CW-LSB automatically. Great sounding rig.

  • Vy FB! Sounds and looks great, a job well done.

  • Holly Goatberries! Arron you've the ears now! Peanut

  • Great Job. I like your speaker grill. I hope you don't mind if I steal that idea :).

I have to put my PR in a box. I made a 20 meter version without the converters that has been sitting around for the last 30 years. I have each module in separate aluminum enclosure.

You might be able to find a receiver that is slightly better than the PR these days but be assured that you will pay HUGE bucks for it.

    Congratulations.

  • Great job on the build! Is the speaker external? SSB sounds great!
