Eleanor Roosevelt once said that "poor minds discuss people, average minds discuss events, and great minds discuss ideas." Integral minds, we might add, discuss all three.

In the Integral Profiles series, host Jeff Salzman sits down with some of today's most notable thinkers, teachers, and leaders, discussing the many ways they are catalyzing the Integral vision in their lives, in their hearts, and in their work. These men and women are collectively defining the leading edge of evolution in today's world, their thoughts and actions actively influencing the shape and scope of tomorrow's possibilities.

Here Don offers an intimate glimpse into his own life and career. He discusses the current phase of his work: traveling the world and applying Spiral Dynamics to various geo-political "hotspots" all over the planet. He offers his own ideas about healthy models of society, the crucial distinction between stages of consciousness and the contents of those stages, and the importance of preserving many of the early stages of development that are so often seen as primitive and obsolete. He then goes into considerable depth around the specifics of the Palestine-Israel conflict, describing the needs and problems on both sides of the divide, his hands-on involvement with both nations, and the remarkable receptivity with which his work has been met. At a time when tensions in the Middle East can seem so hopelessly combustible, it is encouraging to see Integral seeds being planted in such surprisingly fertile soil, offering us all a much-needed exhale as we wait to see how evolution will continue playing itself out in this difficult region of the world.

"[Clare W.] Graves used to caution me, he said that "all you can do is help a country become what is next for it to become. The belief that you can create this Utopian vision, and with a sleight of hand you can turn it into heaven on earth, is not in the cards. What's in the cards is what is next for them—if you help them do that, nature will take care of you. But if you try to jam it in as we tried in Iraq—you see, too complex a system—it's going to blow back on you." -Don Beck

  • Integral Institute needs local people, we need to develop the capacity in Israel and Palestine and not to wait for "Integral Institute" to come and save us.

  • Wow. I'm not sure I've ever heard somebody talk quite as much sense as this.

  • Circle Jerks got nothing on this. Can't touch this. Spiral Jerks. Discuss. Stroke your beard, wax your head, sit on thrown, place the comb over, cut the fat. B-b-but, b-bu-but Ken Wilber said. Where are my groupies? God dammit! Ooooo check the readings on these Alpha waves... fap fap fap Just give it to Jesus. He's good enough. Shut 'em up and let him be Messiah. Ok. Where's my dunce cap? Thanks.

  • Einstein had to wait for the transits of Venus for ultimate vindication.........this theory will never receive empirical vindication however because it is merely a convenient truth for the conceit of those like Beck and Wilber

  • Thanks a lot for this interview !

Clearly, with Don Beck here's a man who actually commands his material and knows what he's talking about when speaking of these different colors. And that shows in his mastery of the application in the field and in how as listener one immediately catches the meaning --- as opposed to superficially endlessly reiterating a few defining abstractions and terms carved by the hard studies by others.

More Graves/Beck/Cowan or the likes of Kegan !

  • @ Imperativism:

You must change the "it" from UR to "my body" to understand ist right. This "it" is misleadingly.

UL/UR/LL/LR are all just different perspectives to ONE and the same subject.

  • @Imperativism. To me, Ken Wilber seems to claim that a collective consciousness cannot be expressed in (formal?) language. Hmmm.

  • @Imperativism. That's Wilber's 4th 'generation' models you speak of. In the 5th 'generation' it is different,

  • As a philosophy writer, I have a deep appreciation for a large portion of Wilber's work. However, I'm completely disappointed by Wilber's AQAL model insofar as it pertains to holism. It doesn't. And an irreconcilable error of Wilber's is the mistake that simply pluralizing a noun changes the observer's perspective, which it clearly doesn't. A perspective on an apple doesn't change simply by adding another apple to the viewer's line of sight. But in AQAL, doing so suffices so that UR becomes LR.

  • @IntegralNeri and in many other countries. This is truly something that can offer a world changing capacity and self-creating systems, which are like an integration at a higher dimension, in a way.
