ThisSpot Light microwaving experience was so out of this world that the Spot Light had an out of bulb experience towards the end. Remember, microwaving food is for morons.

i thought radiation and microwaves were completely different wavelengths, or is it all just radiation that will kill you in the end?

@pokerXfaceXplaya high energy (frequency) radiation is the type of radiation that is dangerous because it has enough energy to ionize the cells in our bodies and to break bonds in our DNA which can cause mutations, visible light, infrared, and microwaves are also radiation but it is radiation that doesn't have enough energy to actually do anything to organic matter.

I would also like to add that when ferrous metals are heated in a microwave, they do not reflect the waves toward the outside. (as suggested by another comment) By nature the microwaves bounce around everywhere inside the cavity, and are contained by the shielding (little holes around 3/16") on the door. The reason for this is because the wavelength used is only slightly larger than the holes, and has a hard time traveling through.

@pokerXfaceXplaya Radiation is just describing something giving off energy. There really isn't any proof that microwave radiation causes cancer. Besides, why worry about microwaves? (if they are properly shielded) There are many more unrestricted things like radio waves of all different frequencies occurring naturally, and man made, traveling through your body this instant. It is probably more likely a heart attack will kill you than your microwave.

The design of microwaves are such that there are no holes large enough in the cooking section once the door closed to allow anything of microwave wavelengths to escape, so putting metal stuff in will only damage the oven ultimately. Even the holes in the door that let you see inside are designed so that they are small enough to block any microwave energy.

Sorry but this is total bull. You're confusing ionising radiation with microwave radiation. The reason they say not to put metal in the microwave is because it will either reflect the rays back into the magnetron, heating and melting it or if the metal is thin because it will create sparks.

the reason why they say don't put metal in the microwave is that the metal reflects the radiation towards the outside. radiation damages the dna in your cells, that causes cancer.
