Columbus County was under a heavy storm and tornado watch between 7-8 p.m. Monday, following the sighting of a twister in Bladen County. Damage was limited to a fallen tree across N.C. 131 and a home destroyed by a felled tree in the 2000 block of Peacock Road. Columbus County Fire and Rescue Assn. President Tony Miller updated the county commissioners frequently during their regular meeting.
Update: NWS reported on Tuesday that the storm created microburst winds and no tornado.
