you had to stay 100 feet from them because the specie of whale you went to see... if you go to watch finbacks and humpback whales you will see them swiming next to the boat,even looking at you, they are very sweet!!!!

I am sorry, but screaming it's like singing for the whales and whales sing to make love, that's why any type of agude sound atracts their atention. And making bubles it's a way to atract school of fish so they can feed.
I went to innumerous whale watching in MA-USA and I hear the biologist saying this every time.

Our boat trip was a full day but typically they take 3/4 of a day. One of our motors went out so we were chugging along pretty slowly.
