@ClassicRocker77 I have a Starcaster actually and it's not that amazing in general; however, the feel of the guitar is the best part of it, neck and all. I love the way it feels, and that's the only reason I still have it. The only thing that holds it back is the pickups, since they aren't real outstanding.

@ClassicRocker77 I wanted an oversized headstock too, the one on my mahogany strat neck looks like an unpainted parker fly headstock, nd as I mentioned, I think I'm allergic to the Pau Ferro. Sucks, because I like how it looks and was thinking of getting a piece thin enough to cut a pickguard out of it. The starcaster necks are actually pretty decent, but one in ever 5 or 6 has rough fret edges. Easy enough to sand the fret edges though. Bullet strat necks are nice if you like satin. Cheap too.

@AdamRainStopper I'm in California.
i don't like headstock on mine, i want an overzised fender type headstock with black finish for mine.
i thought about buying one of those squire ones with black finish "starcasters" but i think the quality on those necks is probably really bad. The Xaviere neck is actually pretty ok. it has 2 odd little holes about 1mm size on the fretboard, don't know why but they dont bother me as much as that headstock.

@ClassicRocker77 Wait a minute, are you actually in Afghanistan? Maybe swapping necks would be more expensive to both of us then buying new necks. Damn, I was hoping to find a neck that doesn't make me break out in hives.....

@ClassicRocker77 I paid 50 bucks for my Japanese made Vantage Avenger, not the GFS guitar. I think flatwounds with the 10K oversized pole bridge pickup would be a bit boomy, then again, I change strings on my main tele weekly (or when it's time to record), so a lot depends on taste, amp, picking style, etc. What don't you like about the neck? I have a thin mahogany strat neck, I think the board is Pau Ferro, and I think I'm allergic to it. Maybe we should trade? The headstock is an odd shape....

@AdamRainStopper 50 bucks?! damn that's cheap ! i paid 200 for mine. i'm planing on refinishing it but i'm still not sure if i want to do a classic non-clear blonde finish or just go for something totally different and authentic.
But this guitar will definitively be fun to upgrade. i'm buying the wilkinson compensated bridge for now and later i'll redo the electronics. maybe later swaping the neck for a strat neck or something. and some flatwound strings.
Neck feels good. Not too slim. Reminds me a lot of my Jazzmaster. Hard to say about consistency of quality, though -- there's a comment on this video that indicates somebody was disappointed when they bought one, and I don't know how easy the guitars might be to return or exchange if they don't measure up. I will say that I got way more guitar than I could have otherwise. I hear you on the headstock, but I don't mind it enough to switch out.

i've been considering to buy that guitar, but i'm always worried the neck pickup may be too muddy.
I really-really like the bridge pickup tho. Nice and solid.

I've been enjoying it, gotta say, and all my guitar playing buddies dig it. Really well put together, solid. Great value. The mini-humbucker at the neck is perfect if I want to get a little chunky, but needs a lot of tone and will muddy on chords, which isn't unexpected. They don't call it the "Keef" guitar for nothing. Bridge pickup is awesome, can't really tell from the vid, 'cause the kids were asleep and couldn't crank the amp. The mix of the two is great as well.

@cbreaden Is this like a jagstang tele mix?
cheezbeenzriz 1 year ago
@cheezbeenzriz That's a good way to describe it. I almost went for the squier jagstang instead, but then a buddy of mine mentioned the Xaviere, and the tele bridge and pickup combination really appealed to me. I've been very pleased. I've seen a handful of negative comments about the Xaviere, but overwhelmingly I've seen positive stuff. Of course, a lot of the comments are based on the price/value factor, but I think it's just a good guitar.
