Clandestine live Houston performance at McGonigel's Mucky Duck Pub. Jen Hamel vox/guitar. Emily Dugas
percussionist/vox2.
Clandestine is a Celtic music group from Houston, Texas. Featuring bagpipes, guitar, fiddle, and drums (bodhrán and conga drums), they play traditional Celtic music (both instrumental and vocal) as well as some modern tunes (including some originals) in a Celtic style. Some songs include additional instruments like the flute, bombarde and various whistles. They formed in 1991, stabilized as a quartet in 1996, and dissolved for a time in 2003. In their original incarnation, the band made 4 discs and toured heavily around the US and also performed in Europe. They were favorites at McGonigel's Mucky Duck Pub in their hometown of Houston, as well as the Cactus Cafe in nearby Austin.
The band reformed with a change in membership in late 2006.

  • The first time that I saw them was at Grandfather Mountain too, tucked back in the meadow, it was surreal. Afterwards I saw them in Houston at the Mucky Duck many, many times.

The last time I saw the band was about 2-3 years ago at the Duck for St. Patty's Day. Emily might have been the only original band member (percussionist) with them then, but EJ was still sitting in occasionally. The band is still in existence just a few new members and still as good!

  • Oh man, how I miss them.

  • great!

  • Thank you so much for posting this video!!!!! I've seen them many times at the Duck and I miss Clandestine as a band!

  • A friend of mine used to have an audio cassette recording of some of their work; I listened to it endlessly. These days I'm trying to track them down again so I can buy some of their work, but all I can find are references to another group by this name. Anybody know how I can find their work?

  • I miss them dearly. My great aunt started the Grandfather Mtn Highland games and I used to spend the whole day just camped out near the grove stage when there was only the one stage.

  • hey......this songz not that bad........:)

  • I used to see them At the Mucky Duck alot when I lived in Houston. *sighs* I miss those days.

  • Gods, I miss Clandestine. I never got to see them at the Mucky Duck - it was always in Austin. But damn. First time I saw EJ play he was standing on the street corner outside of Hole in the Wall in Austin, and people were actually putting money in his case. First (and last) time I've seen that happen.

  • wonderful group!
