  • Hi there, i recently got a Modine Hot water heater.. not sure how to send Private Messages on here but i had a few questions about it. I wired in the run capacitor to the Neutral on the plug in wire. before i couldnt get it to turn on before.. now it runs awesome but the blades spin backwards. what do you think is wrong? And yes... the blades are on the right way :D

1st---if it is 3 Phase---one of the main Power wires has gotten switched when u were wiring things. just switch any two of the 3 main power wires and the fan motor will turn the opposite direction. if it is not a 3 phase motor...read on...

2nd---The fan motor direction is reversable---follow wiring diagram on the side of motor for motor rotation. usually it just entails switching two colored wires. two spade connectors. usually orange and Purple wires.

Continued---When connected orange to orange. purple to purple. the motor spins one direction---usually the wrong direction. when you switch the Push connectors orange to purple.and orange to purple. the motor spins the other direction. Good luck.

  • can a capacitor go bad and still have a flat top?

  • @htrodstar

Very Good Question. Yes, it Sure Can. A Popped Top is Just a For Sure Way to Tell.

If in Doubt, use a Test Meter---or---My Best Suggestion--- Just Replace the Capacitors Every 5 Years In Hot Climates, Capacitors are Cheap! In Mild Climates Every 10 Years.

  • I have a Goodman AC. I replaced the fan motor last month. It ran great and quite.

I just turned on the unit > Arizona on a hot day. It ran for about 45min and the motor stopped. I turned off the power. My friend told me to replace the Capacitor. I just did and the motor still stops after about 30-45min. Connections are solid.

Did I screw up the new motor by connecting it to the old Capacitor?

  • All capacitors have a limit life (measured in hours of usage).

  • Trane units use these dual section caps as well, Our XR12 had it's cap go bad sometime before Memorial weekend, No oil leaking from it, but the top around the terminals was domed out. Replaced it, and all was fine.
