.... but I'm not here to try and convince you there is no god. I was not born an atheist and it took much time, research and pain to reject the beliefs of my parents. But at the end of the day my struggle has brought me to this conclusion in an overwhelming fashion and I don't think I've been exposed to a theistic argument that has even begun to shake that. You have your beliefs and you obviously feel they are a positive influence in your life and that is all that anyone can ask.

@sanzar You should look into the scientific miracles of the Qur'an because even scientists who try and prove the Qur'an is manmade have failed and subsequently converted to Islam.

... I don't think that simply not being covered head to toe means you'll be raped. I live in Australia and have also lived in Japan and while rape no doubt occurs, it is not exactly an epidemic and neither country has to deal with the problem of honour killings, which seems to be related to the idea that women are a corruptive force and therefore any woman who is raped is herself responsible. I know Islam doesn't condone this, but I think the mindset of such strict dress logically leads to it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the French. I think all they're doing is encouraging division. But as an Atheist I personally don't believe any laws are from god/allah and therefore don't think states like Saudi Arabia should have any right to enforce such laws in the same way that I don't think the French should be able to prevent Muslim women from their right to express their worship partly through their dress. That said, while I recognise some countries are dangerous ...

@sanzar We have to look at the reasons why muslim women chose to cover and remember that Sharia Law is sent by Allah and french law is man made. Secondly if women wear hijab its purpose is to prevent many evils in the society such as sexual harrassment, rape and adultery and so this liberates the woman whereas if women were forced to take this off against their will, what will be the consequences?
if not the "burkini" what should we wear to swim?

@eurasianchica The issue is not what muslimahs should wear, because no swimming clothing covers as much as the laws of Hijab require. Rather, muslim women should only swim with other women where men are not able to see them and then the muslimah is only required to cover her awrah infront of other women. This is the solution.
