A 31 plate design, using 20 gage (.036") 316L Stainless Steel plates, that were laser cut, enclosed with 6mm thick transparent acrylic.
Lid is .500" thick Gray PVC, the electrode bolt holes are tapped and sealed with 316L Stainless Steel washers and corrision resistant rubber O-rings.
The housing was formed with the same 20 gage stainless steel the electrode plates were cut out of. The top and bottom flanges were cut from 11 gage (.120") 304 Stainless Steel.
The bubbler is just plain ABS with threaded holes. Nothing has been glued or permenantly sealed yet as there are still some things I must finish before I make it irrepairable.
I expect this cell to run most efficiently at 12-14 VDC and draw 40 or 50 amps with all six electrodes connected in parallel and produce 2-4 LPM.
I am waiting for more money so I can get some pure KOH. If anyone knows any place to get scientific grade KOH over the counter, let me know.
Or better yet, give me information comparing the overall efficiency and performance of pure KOH and drain cleaner containing KOH from Home Depot.

  • So, are you trying to find a more effective way to produce hydrogen for an additive to a gas engine, or for running a car completely on hydrogen alone?

  • @AwesomestSauceEver I was hoping to improve my truck's gas mileage; I have since given up on this project, due to lack of time and money. I would be willing to help anyone build an electrolizer though. This technology is great and anyone with thorough knowledge of fuel delivery systems with combustion engines could get fantastic gas mileage.

  • hay man were did you get the drill bits from

  • @korndog86 I have a standard Dewault drill bit set. Nothing fancy. The laser that cut out the stainless steel plates? Now that's fancy.

  • did it work???

  • Barely. I was extremely disappointed. I am still looking for a decent electrolyte. Let it be known that hair dissolving drain opener is extremely corrosive as it instantly corroded my plates.

A new video of my failure coming soon...

  • electrolytes i was playing with the ideal of natral electrolytes if they work i'll let u know!

  • Yes, I did get it fixed, but it's still a crappy weld. I think I'm going to perform flashback experiments with this one. I suspect that the welds will fracture before anything else in an explosion.

  • Yeah... the guy was a rookie welder, but he did it for free. Next time I'll have to pay someone who is an accomplished tig welder.

  • Yeah... right away I noticed the poor quality welding of that thing...
