Descendants Of Smith from the homonymous album, later reissued as Garden Of Uranium.
I'm redoing this one just because the first video wasn't good enough. This time I made sure both my hands were in the frame.
I know that Roy thinks highly of this song and it surely is one of his best from the 80's. I particularly like the chord progression.
The guitar is tuned to DGCFAD (standard tuning, but lower) and with the strings so loose I struggled with some intonation issues. But overall I think this is far better than my first attempt. Cheers!

  • Yes, I got that REM sound too. I just had a quick listen through 'Automatic For The People' and the first track, 'Drive', has a similar sound to it I think.

  • @mussie302 Yes, I was thinking of that album/period too.

  • That was brilliant. Such a great sound and wonderfully played. I agree, that chord progression sounds wonderful.

  • @mussie302 Thanks John. For some reason I cat put my finger on this chord progression makes me think of R.E.M. (???)

  • Nice and crisp. Clean and spiffy in my view.

  • @experimentalrock Thanks mate.

  • @BadSpeech I tend to use heavier strings 12/53 D'addario and I can take them down 2 whole tones without intonation problems......although I do have a 12 string with exceptionally light strings 9/40 which I use for raised pitch tunings A..Bb...E...F etc

  • @electricragtime Thanks mate. What gauge do you use on the 12 string? I use 010 and the intonation suffers a bit when I tune down a tone. Not so much if it's just 1/2 a tone...

  • Very nicely played......and the 12 string sounds great.......and one of my 12 stringers is always tuned down a tone to DGCFAD.....in fact most people I know have their twelves tuned down a tone.....Kev
