I don't really believe the "can't get a visa in time" story for Semionova. Maybe she got cold feet at the thought of dancing with a 20 yo first-time Siegfried. Whatever the truth, it was Vadim's gain. He could not have had a better partner than Klimentova for his debut. Imagine, 20 years old, first major role, audience of 5,000 - he could have gone to pieces. I am sure the influence and support of Klimentova was very important. She is a true prima ballerina and a wonderful human being.

Derek Deane should have paired his very inexperienced Siegfried with an established Odette from within the company from the very start, and given them sufficient rehearsal time. Lucky for him they came through on the night - but the audience lost out on Polina.

@Pearlaceous You have to wonder what he was thinking, pairing a young inexperienced male with one of the most experienced and accomplished female dancers in the world, you're right he should have paired the two company dancers from the start because on the night the two of them done an absolutely amazing job, I think he was obsessed about Polina because of her crowd pulling ability, at the end of the day though the show would have sold with or without her :-)
