In this video of the Atkins Diet Misconceptions series, I deal with the myth that Atkineers simply lose water weight. To some, the Atkins Diet is simply a trip to the sauna nothing more or less. (http://www.atkinsexposed.org/atkins/14/Losing_(Water)_Weight.htm)
As with any other "Big Lie," it of coruse starts with the truth and departs rapidly from it.

* Composition of weight lost during short-term weight reduction. Metabolic responses of obese subjects to starvation and low-calorie ketogenic and nonketogenic diets. J. Clin. Invest. M U Yang, et al.

During the first two weeks of the Atkins Diet Induction, the body consumes the remaining stored glucose (glycogen) in the muscles. This typically causes the Induction flu symptoms. However after that period of time, the low carb, high fat diet is responsible for greater weight loss of fat mass and greater prevention of muscle loss than any other diet. I have documented in prior videos the studies that have proven these facts. Here is just one article (Very-low-carbohydrate diets and preservation of muscle mass, Nutrition & Metabolism 2006, http://www.nutritionandmetabolism.com/content/3/1/9 )

There is no way my 211 weight loss was simply 25.3 gallons of water weight loss. My Body Fat percent dropped 35 percent over the course, and my bench press amount increased 50 pounds. That is not simply water leaving the body.

  • Thankyou for such honest and authentic information. All of your videos are inspiring. Initially I lost 108 lbs alone, and kept it off for 7 years. It was when I started a relationship, cooked for them, and did a bite here, and a plate there of high carbs that I gained 40 lbs in about 10 mos. I talked to them, and they listened about how sick I was before Atkin's.. They've begun to cook low carb with me! I've lost 20 lbs and am going to make goal, this time with a great friend.

  • @sasto65 I am looking forward to seeing your goal video, and I know you can do it too. You've done it already, and you know where it went awry the first time. Having additional support only makes it that much more sure. Good luck!

  • Great video

  • @serineea I agree 100%!

  • @wagjiani7 Great good for you that you can lose weight without Atkins. As for why I wasn't able to lose weight, who knows - insulin resistance, carbohydrate sensitivity? What makes your brain incapable to understand that not everyone is like you?

  • @bowulf i have been watching what i eat and am still able to loose weight, what makes your body so stubborn that you can't loose weight by watching what you eat?

  • @wagjiani7 Let's see I have been at goal for 6 years now. I have friends who have been at goal for 10-15 years on Atkins. It certainly seems like a lifetime situation. Perhaps your problem was you weren't willing to make long term changes to achieve long term results on Atkins.

As for it all being calorie deficit, it has no relation to my and many others weight loss success. I tracked, planned, and recorded to nth degree my Calories to no success. Limit my carbs, and the weight came off.

  • @bowulf hey im still able to eat high calorie foods and still maintain and loose weight, so what does that stay, atkins is not a lifetime solution for weight loss. I soon realised this when i stopped losing weight after the water weight went down. When i started weight loss i lost many pounds initially, thats because i cut back on calories, calories deficit is a fundamental reasoning for all weight loss achievements.

  • @wagjiani7 Well I lost 200+ pounds eating 2-3x as many Calories on Atkins than I did on a strict 1500 Calories where I lost only 10 pounds in 6 months. Bodyperformance.tv refuses to answer my questions or explain why I lost more on Atkins than on a strict Calorie restricted diet.

So keep hanging around Steve, eating your chocolate cakes, and getting his advice. My advice has served me and many viewers fine.
