I saw the commercial in the movies, and the poem to me sounded pretty powerful, and I actually looked it up.

There is no better way to "Go forth," be a pioneer, be independent or stick it to the man than to go to Sears and buy a thirty dollar pair of jeans. It would be great if by viewing this commercial people would appreciate poetry/literature more but I doubt that will be the case. I believe that few will ever know who the author is, what the significance of the poem is, or read any of his other works as a result of this commercial.

This is actually about manifest destiny and our westward expansion in the US. O Captain My Captain! is about Lincoln.

...has nothing to do with jeans tho.
kind of disrespect to the poem considering he wrote it about President Lincoln's asassination...

A revolting joke. Underfed, shallow tv models wearing expensive jeans made by slave labor with words from an icon of the English language.

Don't ever, ever buy this crap.

The "concept" and filming probably made some vacuous ad company millions and will sell billions to vacuous idots.

Almost as revolting as the Beatles images being used to sell mindless computer games to the same vacuous idots.

This is the opposite of Whitman. We aren't pioneers, we are sickly sheep.
