This General Chemistry lecture covers the electronic structure of transition metal compexes, starting with the simple Crystal Field Theory, covering the spectrochemical series of ligands, high-spin and low-spin complexes, magnetic properties of compounds, and finally the Ligand Field Theory of bonding in complexes.

  • oh my bad, I misread, never mind ignore my stupid comment :) Great lecture btw.

  • Hi, No worries! I do make errors sometimes, and I appreciate when viewers bring them to my attention.

  • For tetrahedral field, the two groups of d orbitals should be e and t2 instead of eg and t2g, isn't it?

  • Right you are! Thanks for pointing this out. The Td (tetrahedral) point group does not have any inversion symmetry, so the g/u notation is inappropriate.

  • GO UTES!!!!

  • i think it is good lectue on transition metal theory.

    best of luck

  • Props to you if I pass my test tomorrow.

  • Brilliant! Explained it all so well! :D

    Thank you!

  • Thank you, is very useful and very well explained.

  • Interesting about the d orbials, but it may be slightly ore than I need for MCAT.

    THANKS

  • For the spectrochemical series slide ( 5:12 ), I think there is a mistake. Short wavelengths are blue (not red) and long wavelengths are red (not blue).
