Marian Anderson Sings at Lincoln Memorial

Marian Anderson, contralto, was denied the right to perform at Constitution Hall by the DAR because of her color. Instead, and at the urging of Eleanor Roosevelt, Harold Ickes permitted her to perform at the Lincoln Memorial on April 9, 1939.

The color of a persons skin is insignifcant, but it is the content of their character that makes mankind a true human being. We can suppose to be strong, yet we must propose to be dignified, to uphold the dignity as a person who truly believes they are Created by God. There is none greater than God, but those who recognize that we as a people are all created by Him. All are equal in the eyes of this magnificent God. To be ethnocentric is to be lovers of themselves not God.

GENIUS KNOWS NO COLOR LINE. Thus is the great Marian Anderson introduced. Meant as a "compliment," it irks me to no end that color is even introduced as a factor, much less that...well, if you're not a genius, then a "color line" can legitimately be permitted into the picture. I suppose therefore that in this gentleman's mind, Ms. Anderson was elevated to the status of "good Negro person" as opposed to the multitude of riff-raff. RACISM KNOWS NO PARTIALITY, GENIUS NOTWITHSTANDING.
