@RyanDemaree It is understandable you say that. The art world is full of pretentious people. And it has been getting worse over time. Mainly because all sorts of people want to make money off it. The Myth that good art is a matter of opinion is perpetuated to get everyone involved, get them into museums, galleries and in the end get money out of them.

I love Giger's work. However art is more than a cool picture or idea. And there are plenty of bad pictures of futuristic worlds.

I would say the work of many such as Koons and Emin is over-hyped. Talked up as they are more important or something they aren't. This has mainly to do with Galleries and critics who all but a handful are just leeches and salesman.

Good art is more than a landscape or a portrait.

Giger creates futuristic alien worlds, life size sculptures, entire movies out of his vision.

No bowl of fruit will ever match that.

Surrealism is the most powerful form of art that there is. To create something visually and intellectually pleasing is to create a good work of art.

Post modern art and bland realism are both below it.

@RyanDemaree Well, the art world. The point was that his influence was beyond style. It was an influence of modern art. And he painted apples.

Other than Picasso and maybe van gogh, none of the other artists you mention come close to having the same influence or importance, especially Giger who is not even in the same league as the others.
