  • hey i got a mitsubishi galant but i don't know wat year it is. the Gauges look identical

  • I bought the car about a month ago. The timing belt was changed a week before that while it went through the rwc process. Ahh ok, it could just be how they are supposed to sound, but because ive never driven or been in anything like this im clueless lol. Yeah one mechanic said it was probably the input shaft bearing. It doesnt sound too bad so it should be right for atleast a little while yet. Cheers for your help though!

  • Has it happened ever since you got the timing belt changed? How long have you had the car? Maybe that "whiney" noise is normal? Mine makes the same noise (but much louder) in first and second. The problem you're describing in regards to the clutch, it sounds like either the clutch plate throw out bearing, or the input shaft bearing. Obviously, it's so much easier to replace the throw out bearing, so try that first I reckon. Mine makes a really loud chatter, but I'm using a H/D exedy clutch.

  • Timing belt was changed about 3wks ago, it's been looked at and its fine apparently. Ive just added another video, so have a listen at about the 10sec mark and you'll hear it pretty good. Also when its just idling in neutral without the clutch in you can hear what sounds like a bearing noise (stops when the clutch is in), is that a common problem? Not sure if the whiney noise and that bearing noise are the same problem or two different ones lol

  • By the way you're describing it, sounds like the noise is proportional to RPM? It's not a rubbing belt or anything is it? The timing belt idler bearing, and tension bearing can wear out too. Do you know when the timing belt has been hanged last?

    GZood luck with it dude.

  • Yeah, do that man. Whereabouts are you from anyway?

I don't think the cyclone intake manifold is causing the whiny noise though. Yeah, it could be the input shaft bearing I guess. It could also be your thrust bearing for your clutch maybe? Mine makes a really loud chattering noise, and it's a topic that's been discussed many times by Galant owners.

  • ahh really?? I have read that, but ive also read that some N/A 4g63's came with it too :-S

It feels really restrictive, but im assuming thats probably caused by a stock cold air intake and headers. It got an exhaust, but headers would be nice to make it flow better :)

  • Yeah we changed the oil when they checked for any metal shavings from the box. They mentioned it could be the input bearing in the gearbox (I think that's what it was called). There's really two noises a. that whiny noise and b. a bearing noise. I'm starting to wonder if the whiny noise is actually normal for the 4g63 with the Cyclone thingo...maybe lol. It doesn't sound terrible, just haven't heard a N/A engine sound like its got a blower lol. Might try and get a better video over the weekend.

  • Oh, also VTL67, the cyclone intake manifold came on turbocharged 4G63's, so I'm not really sure why you have one?

Chances are, it's probably not working properly without the appropriate solenoid valve.

  • Hey ratman!! :P

Btw, this is FWD remember, so unless it's a converted AWD box, there is no centre diff.

Maybe try changing the oil VTL67?
